Cayman First was incorporated as an ordinary resident company under the Companies Law of the Cayman Islands in February 1984. Shortly thereafter, it obtained a Class “A” Local Insurer’s License under the Insurance Law of the Cayman Islands, which enabled it to commence writing general insurance (property / casualty) business. In 1999, it added the designation ‘Approved Health Insurance Provider’ to its credentials and began writing health insurance business. The company operates both Personal and Commercial segments of the Cayman Islands insurance market and is regulated by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and by the Health Insurance Commission within the Cayman Islands Department of Health Regulatory Services. The company has an AM Best financial strength rating of A- (Excellent) with a stable outlook. It has been part of the Bahamas First Group since 2010.
